If I could ask you how to turn this thing around How to keep from falling Would you tell me? Could you take me past our Division Street? Past conscience calling Would you take me? I don’t want to end up haunted By the crack in the road we missed Sometimes you only notice when you turn and walk away It was right there staring you in the face On the corner where I tried to get your name Where I tried to convince you Just to see me Can we go back and pretend that nothing’s changed? Like we were always Always the same I don’t want to end up haunted By the crack in the road we missed Sometimes you only notice when you turn and walk away It was right there staring you in the face I don’t want to end up haunted By the crack in the road we missed Sometimes you only notice when you turn and walk away It was right there staring you in the face You were right there staring me in the face

Drive 03:28
We thought we caught something Slipped right by the corner of our eyes It slipped into our heads and veins Much to our, our deep surprise, she said, You said you never had nothing that made you feel so alive You said there’s always something here keeping you alive And as you turned to me and said, “Baby just drive” I thought I’d gone unnoticed right by The corner of your eyes I slipped into your head and veins Much to your, I said, your deep surprise You said you never had no one who made you feel so alive You said there’s always something here keeping you alive And as you turned to me and said, “Baby just drive” You said you never had no one who made you feel so alive You said there’s always something here keeping you alive And as you turned to me and said, “Baby just drive”

I try to amaze you with things that I say but I just can’t get it right I keep dealing with these feelings I hope they get underlined Don’t stop turning you spin in a straight line you capture my dark with your light You paint the sky Every time you change my mind You don’t have to tell me why We’re still all right We’re still all right We’re still all right So clear what I’m thinking gets lost in the ink when I try to put it down Someone keeps stealing each line worth keeping but the thief makes no sound Don’t stop turning I spin in a straight line my love is a verb and a noun You paint the sky Every time you change my mind You don’t have to tell me why We’re still all right We’re still all right We’re still all right Write this down and hope that it shows I’ll follow you wherever you go You paint the sky Every time you change my mind You don’t have to tell me why We’re still all right We’re still all right We’re still all right You paint the sky Every time you change my mind You don’t have to tell me why We’re still all right We’re still all right We’re still all right

Liza 03:15
I can’t remember what you told me This mischief keeps me at bay Life unfolds into a story Where they don’t give the ending away Some days it’s so quiet in this house The silence is screaming without a sound No, never mind Never mind Never mind Why can’t I ever fill this bucket? Why can’t I keep myself away? Why can’t I see what I’m becoming? I am the patch that is frayed Some days it’s so quiet in this house The silence is screaming without a sound No, never mind Never mind Never mind No, never mind Never mind Never mind

The Partisan 03:19
When they poured across the border I was cautioned to surrender This I could not do I took my gun and vanished I have changed my name so often I've lost my wife and children But I have many friends And some of them are with me An old woman gave us shelter Kept us hidden in the garret Then the soldiers came She died without a whisper There were three of us this morning I'm the only one this evening But I must go on The frontiers are my prison Oh the wind, the wind is blowing Through the graves the wind is blowing Freedom soon will come Then we'll come from the shadows Les Allemands e'taient chez moi (The Germans were at my home) Ils me dirent, "Signe toi" (They said, "Sign yourself") Mais je n'ai pas peur (But I am not afraid) J'ai repris mon arme (I have retaken my weapon) J'ai change' cent fois de nom (I have changed names a hundred times) J'ai perdu femme et enfants (I have lost wife and children) Mais j'ai tant d'amis (But I have so many friends) J'ai la France entie`re (I have all of France) Un vieil homme dans un grenier (An old man, in an attic) Pour la nuit nous a cache' (Hid us for the night) Les Allemands l'ont pris (The Germans captured him) Il est mort sans surprise (He died without surprise) Oh the wind, the wind is blowing Through the graves the wind is blowing Freedom soon will come Then we'll come from the shadows

Postcards 02:48
Don’t stand in front of what you do know Keep the past right outside your window Let the morning rain hit your face and cool you You don’t need drugs to keep you sane when Youth leaves you like a neglected friend Stare straight at the light as it penetrates you You’re the only thing that I need The only thing that I need The only thing that I need Catch your breath as you peer into outer space In telescopes and mirrors bent as you gaze Through a hole as black as night don’t let me lose you Your face lit up like the Northern Lights In the stars like the darkness they ignite I hold you tight because I know I can’t live without you You’re the only thing that I need The only thing that I need The only thing that I need You’re the only thing that I need The only thing that I need The only thing that I need

Shapes 03:40
I see you in the spotlight By the river dark as your hair I dream of you with wide eyes With a beautiful stare you cut my heart I hear a perfect song A perfect symphony when you talk I don’t need an invisible god Gods never show up but you’re always there Your sweet comfort in the night Bouquet of changes leaving no trace I keep these thoughts locked inside Inside a still frame image in my mind I hear a perfect song A perfect symphony when you talk I don’t need an invisible god Gods never show up but you’re always there

I couldn’t stand the look of all the sadness strung across your face The other day when winter came around and washed the cool winds across this place So meet me on the other side Let me take your hand We’ll climb a ladder to the sun and carry on And we’ll watch the world spinning round So bring me the light Show me you’re alive Come on bring me the light And move me, tell me it’ll be alright I couldn’t stand the time away I just had to call and say I need you ‘cuz the heat is beating me, the river won’t wash me in this state So ride across the line And pick you up this evening We’ll climb a ladder to the sun and carry on And we’ll skip this war from the beginning So bring me the light Show me you’re alive Come on bring me the light And move me, tell me it’ll be alright So meet me on the other side Let me take your hand We’ll climb a ladder to the sun and carry on And we’ll watch the world from the beginning So bring me the light Show me you’re alive Come on bring me the light And move me, tell me it’ll be alright Tell me it’ll be alright Tell me it’ll be all …

Hands upon the heir Your love is complicated There’s fire where the flowers used to grow There’s fire where the flowers used to grow Hands upon the heir Your righteous fabrications There’s fire where the flowers used to grow There’s fire where the flowers used to grow Pourquoi cashez-vous (Why do you hide?) Pourquoi cashez-vous (Why do you hide?) Hands upon the heir Your love is complicated There’s fire where the flowers used to grow There’s fire where the flowers used to grow Pourquoi cashez-vous (Why do you hide?) Pourquoi cashez-vous (Why do you hide?)

You can go home You can travel alone If you call me I’ll come running You can reap what you sow You can slide you can grow If you call me I’ll come running Only if you’ll love me Will I stay You can break my heart You can tear me apart If you call me I’ll come running You can scream you can shout Don’t just hang around If you need me I’ll come running Only if you’ll love me Will I stay Only if you’ll love me Only if you’ll love me Only if you’ll love me Will I stay

about

Recorded in my apartment on my laptop in Nashville, TN—except for "I'll Come Running", which was taken from earlier "Cast A Light" sessions in 2008.

"Drive" was written by my brother, originally recorded in 1997 on an 8-track half inch tape machine. This version is a re-recording of that song.

Ken & Roberta's parts were recorded in Toronto (see credits).
